Resolution 2013

While some may still be preparing their costumes for this October’s FreakNight 2012, USC Events is already hard at work preparing for Resolution 2013, the New Years Eve closeout to what has been a remarkable year for the growth of electronic dance music.  Shows across the globe have been selling out within 15 minutes, fan bases are expanding rapidly, and the level of musical talent within the genres has escalated.

During 2012, USC Events spoiled Seattle by bringing to it an extensive array of EDM’s elite and branded the Emerald City as one of the newest epicenters for musical growth.  From last year’s Resolution, to Lucky, the first ever Paradiso, the opening of Foundation Nightclub, FreakNight and the many more shows in between, 2012 was legendary for Seattle’s EDM movement.  Now, with the music and experience’s popularity higher than ever, we can only begin to imagine what is in store for us come 2013.  2012 was great, but 2013 promises to be even better…

What will your Resolution be?

Plan to begin your year once the clock strikes midnight at Resolution 2013 with Cosmic Gate, Dieselboy, Doctor P, FuntCase, Mord Fustang, Rusko, W&W, and many more to come.  New artists are being added to the lineup weekly, so be sure to continue checking in on the Resolution Facebook page or the USC Events website, listed below.

Drop The World: DJ Dig Dug

The Seattle EDM scene has found itself rising from the ashes thanks in great part to the dedication of a select few who have been involved in the music’s evolution since the beginning.  These Northwestern dj’s, producers, promoters and most of all, fans have been aiding in the development of music since before some of us were born.  If you live in the Northwest and have been thriving from the increase in show frequency, there is no doubt that you have already been exposed to various members of this local talent.

If you haven’t heard of him before, then you had better get listening. DJ Dig-Dug is well known throughout the Seattle community and has already made his mark globally, rising to the #18 spot on Beatport’s Top 100 Glitch Hop chart for his remix of ‘Kloser’.  Though now based out of New York, we can guarantee that Dig-Dug’s dedicated influence in Seattle will continue to meld the genres that we love so deeply.

Artist Spotlight: Porter Robinson

Porter Robinson is an American DJ from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and a front representative of the rise in talented youth EDM artists and DJ’s. Originally utilizing an electro-house sound that features hard, raspy bass lines, he has since moved on to experimenting with dubstep and moombahton as well.

At just 17, the 2010 release of his first single, ‘Say My Name’, was extremely successful, reaching the #1 spot on Beatport’s electro-house chart. Well known for his original productions, his remixes are what surely put him in the limelight. His remixes to Yolanda Be Cool & Dcup’s ‘We No Speak Americano’ and Spencer & Hill’s ’Less Go’ in 2010 feature his signature long build-ups and massive drops.

A year later he was on one of the biggest stages that Northwest EDMers had seen, performing on the main stage at Beyond Wonderland 2011 in Seattle with David Guetta, LMFAO, A-Trak, and Garth Emery. I came to this show knowing only of said remixes and a few singles, but left a newborn Porter Robinson fanatic. The amount of energy emulating from each set is inspiring, rivaling the likes of Tiësto in his ability to get a crowd dancing till they drop.

In the summer of 2011 he signed to Skrillex’s new label, OWSLA, and released his first EP, Spitfire. Living up to past success, the EP reached #1 overall on Beatport and on the iTunes Dance chart. He then jumped in on Tiësto’s Club Life College Invasion Tour 2011, and released a mini-documentary of the experience that can be seen on his YouTube page, “PorterRobinsonMusic”.

2012 marks a new year, surely filled with more success, for Porter Robinson. His schedule already includes performances at Coachella and Ultra Music Festival. On March 16th, almost a year after the bone-rattling performance at Beyond Wonderland, Porter will once again take the stage at WaMu Theater for Lucky 2012, bigger and better than ever. If in dire need of an appetizer, be sure to check out his live January 28th Essential Mix featured on BBC Radio 1.

Inside Ibiza: Part 1

Yes, we’ve all had the dream.  The one where we suddenly find ourselves plunged into the thick of the EDM world, dancing away at the Spanish island Ibiza (aka. Paradise).  This clubbing hotspot boasts residencies with some of EDM’s top artists and for many, is an experience only dreamed of.

For those of you craving a taste of what it’s like to spend a summer in the infamous Ibiza, this 5 episode series following Roger Sanchez is your first step.  Check out the first episode here, as Terry Church takes you on a journey following Sanchez’s summer residency at Space Ibiza.  Yes, you can go ahead and start drooling…..

Any chance you’ve been to/are headed here?  Tell us your stories in the comment section below!

“Throughout this series, director Terry Church takes you behind the scenes of Roger’s DJ life and his relationship with the White Isle. From Roger’s residency at the island’s superclub Space, to events for his record label Stealth, his studio sessions, and the characters around him, Inside Ibiza is a documentary that aims to get to the heart of DJ culture and Ibiza.

Terry goes into further details in his director’s notes…

Director’s Notes: Inside Ibiza with Roger Sanchez: Episode 1

When I visited Ibiza for the first time 10 years ago, one record ruled the island’s many dancefloors and beach parties. Never tired of dancing to its beat, people knew every line in it, they even sang the words in the street.

That song was Roger Sanchez’ ‘Another Chance’, so to be invited to document the Roger’s DJ life in Ibiza a decade on this summer was particularly exciting, and an honour considering Roger’s huge profile on the island.

It was also a bit of a challenge because we had to get all of our filming done at the height of Ibiza’s clubbing season in August, when dance music madness is all around.

To say Roger is a busy man would be an understatement. He is always on the move, in between countries, working in the studio, DJing in a packed club, or cruising at 35,000 feet. So whatever we did with our five part documentary, I knew that we had to capture some of that rolling chaos and the jet-setting DJ lifestyle that he experiences on a daily basis.

With Episode 1, I decided to propel the viewer straight into Roger’s DJ life, as we accompany him during a typical Ibiza day/night. The action moves fast, as everything that occurs in Episode 1 happened in a 24-hour period.

There is the journey to Ibiza on a private jet, the rushing from one gig to another, the moment when Roger walks into the DJ booth of the world famous Space terrace and sees his audience for the first time, the feeling on the dancefloor when he plays, and the adorning fans who seek his autograph and a photo.

There is barely time to breathe. Everything builds up deliberately towards his main DJ set at Space, and I hope that when the beat finally drops, you feel for a moment what it might actually be like to be Roger Sanchez.”
